Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases on very steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls above approximately 2200 m. The wind slabs are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls. <br/> Avalanches can in very isolated cases penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack and reach medium size."
