Loose snow avalanches are to be expected. Fresh wind slabs require caution.

In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation numerous small and medium-sized loose snow avalanches are to be expected above approximately 2000 m, in the event of prolonged bright spells especially in extremely steep terrain. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

As a consequence of new snow and wind from westerly directions, wind slabs formed in particular in high Alpine regions. The soft wind slabs are mostly small but in some cases prone to triggering, in particular on steep shady slopes. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2800 m. They are to be avoided in particular in very steep terrain.

A lot more new snow than expected along the border with Trentino: In some regions up to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Monday.
The fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. The weather effects will bring about a weakening of the near-surface layers as the day progresses. The old snowpack will be in most cases stable. In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

As a consequence of mild temperatures solar radiation the snow drift accumulations will stabilise. Slight increase in danger of moist and wet snow slides as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation.

As a consequence of new snow and a strong southwesterly wind, mostly small wind slabs formed at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The fresh wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering. Avalanches can be released by small loads and reach medium size, in particular on steep shady slopes, as well as adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. They are to be avoided as far as possible. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. In the regions with a lot of snow small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized wet loose snow avalanches are possible above approximately 2000 m.

On Tuesday it will be cloudy. Above approximately 1800 m snow will fall in some regions. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust only at high altitudes. As a consequence of snowfall and the strong southwesterly wind, snow drift accumulations formed during the last two days. These are mostly only small. The spring-like weather conditions will give rise to rapid softening of the snowpack. This applies in particular below approximately 2400 m.
At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Fresh wind slabs are small and can only be released in isolated cases. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found on near-ridge shady slopes in high Alpine regions. The wind slabs are to be avoided in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling.

5 to 10 cm of snow will fall. The snowpack will be stable over a wide area. Fresh wind slabs are only small. These are lying on soft layers on near-ridge shady slopes in high Alpine regions.
In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.
